Apprentice Case Study - Ana Ruskova from Royal College of Physicians - CH&CO
Umbrella Training have a fantastic partnership with CH&CO, enabling us to work closely to grow their Apprenticeship Academies and develop bespoke leadership, hospitality, and chef programmes. We asked Apprentice Ana about her apprenticeship journey with us.
I choose to do a Level 5 Operations Departmental Manager apprenticeship with Umbrella Training as it gives me the opportunity to gain qualification while at work so that I can progress in my career.
It was easy to sign up and start but the apprenticeship itself requires dedication and a lot of hard work which can be challenging at times.
There were a lot of changes along the way, but I am very grateful for the support of my two learning consultants I am currently working with. They are prompt with their responses and provide very good communication and the right level of guidance and support for me to succeed.
I found time was my biggest enemy. Hospitality is a fast-paced industry to work in, that often includes long and irregular working hours. I had to improve my time management skills in order to overcome this challenge.
One of my biggest successes was receiving the Highly Commended as a Level 5 Apprentice at the Purple Umbrella Awards 2023 held at BAFTA 195; nominated by my employer Royal College of Physicians, London.
I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship as a further education option to others. I have a Master’s degree in International business but no qualification in the hospitality industry. This apprenticeship gives me exactly that - opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification and valuable skills while working and do what I love.
I have already recommended Umbrella Training to others and my journey has inspired many of my team members to consider taking the leap themselves.
