Celebrating #BHM - Meet Apprentice Selven Armoogum and his inspiration Srinivasan Ramanuja.
My name is Selven Armoogum, Operations Manager Apprentice at Dorset Square Hotel. I have over 20 years of experience in hospitality, an interestI developed in Mauritius whilst working as an apprentice chef.
Living and working within four countries has given me an appreciation and curiosity for different people, religion, cultures and food. Whether personal or professional, I have always tried to be the best at what I do.
I have chosen Srinivasan Ramanuja as my inspirational figure, he was so sincere in whatever he did whether it be his religion, family or mathematics. It might seem unconventional, but if one looks close enough, they will see similarities in Ramanuja’s passion for mathematics and a leaders’ passion to lead.
Srinivasan Ramanuja broke all the stereotypes despite having almost no formal training, he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory and beyond, including solutions to mathematical problems then considered unsolvable.
Although dying young he left behind a legacy and nearly 3,900 results. Ramanujan cultivated his passion single headedly and in total isolation. At that time there was very little exposure to education for him and he was largely self-taught. He was very dedicated, disciplined and a man of value and respect.
