Business case study with Head of Learning & Development at ICONIC Luxury Hotels, John Hollywood

At Iconic Luxury Hotels we have identified that apprenticeships have provided a certain degree of flexibility within our team in relation to recruitment and retention.

The nature of the apprenticeships has assisted in staffing and supported our succession planning model.

Umbrella was selected because they provided a flexible, tailored offering for Iconic Luxury Hotels. Industry reports of its capabilities were very favourable and we felt we would like to be a part of the Umbrella journey.

Umbrella has a wide range of apprenticeships and more importantly, understands our industry. The induction process and onboarding were very professional, and a learning culture was created quickly for our cohorts.

We are delighted with the quality of training provided. We receive regular feedback from the apprentices and Umbrella and this is key. We have seen that the personal approach from Umbrella has worked so well to bring out the best in our teams.

We are delighted that our Heads of Department have fully engaged with the apprentices, some have also joined them by taking 'Mentoring' apprenticeships alongside their teams.

It is wonderful that the teams are learning and developing together at all levels.

The apprenticeship programme has become an essential part of our Iconic career pathways and our succession planning. Our apprentices can see future development at Iconic Luxury Hotels and this gives them a starting point for their Iconic journey. Apprenticeships will also perform a vital role in our succession planning strategy.
