Kickstart scheme

Umbrella Training are helping employers access funding whilst strategically building sustainable recruitment and bespoke training programmes that boost retention and staff engagement across England, Wales and Scotland.

With the release of the roadmap out of lockdown, coupled with the news of an increase and extension of the apprenticeship incentive scheme, now is the time to accelerate people strategies and take advantage of the available grants to support learning and development budgets.

Kickstart Scheme: Secure your funding!

The Kickstart Scheme, which was launched in September 2020 as part of the UK’s recovery strategy, is a £2.5billion employment programme running until December 31st 2021, creating thousands of new jobs for young people.

As a Kickstart Gateway, we have seen a huge rise in applications and are championing the scheme as an invaluable opportunity for businesses that are struggling from the economic fallout of the pandemic.

The scheme, which is designed to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year-olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment, offers employers the chance to recruit new team members whilst covering their costs.

Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of six months

  • Associated employer National Insurance contributions

  • Employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

  • A grant of £1,500 per job placement for setup costs, support and training

Life changing

opportunities

We are already hearing of how the scheme is creating life-changing opportunities, highlighting how taking part in the programme can add huge value to all involved.

The process is simple and we support our employers every step of the way with personalised advice and guidance throughout the recruitment process.

We complete the administrative requirements on their behalf, offer a free onboarding pack, and provide optional training programmes to accelerate the Kickstarters.

We don’t want the opportunities to stop there and we are encouraging employers to move Kickstarters onto apprenticeships when their placements end.
