Vegan Antics and Umbrella - A business case study

I think one of the main benefits of hiring an apprentice is that we are able to train them to be our ideal candidates.

Whilst a highly qualified person may be able to work independently sooner, an apprentice is often more trainable as they are getting their qualification on the job. As a small business, hiring an apprentice fits in with our budget and there is less risk if we have a period of lower sales.

Lastly, the broad nature of an apprenticeship allows the apprentice to become an "all-rounder" meaning they can help out in various sectors rather than being single skilled.

 

We very much struggled to find a training company that was still offering hospitality apprenticeships.

Umbrella was able to offer an appropriate course for what we needed.

We are confident in the training that Hannah is receiving and Hannah seems really positive about her apprenticeship too.

 

We invest a lot of time training our apprentices and because of this,

I believe we build a good relationship between manager & employee which definitely helps staff retention.

I would also say that the regular meetings mean that there is constant communication and any concerns are addressed in a healthy and positive way.

Being such a small company means that management and employees work very closely together. This allows us to regularly check in and makes sure Hannah is doing okay with her work and receives additional help (if required).

Hannah is our second apprentice, who I have no doubt will be a prominent figure in our business in the future. If we can replicate this success a third time it would be silly not to.

 

I think the quality of training from Selven has been top-notch.

Hannah speaks highly of him and although the online training days can be long, the information is always delivered in a way that keeps everyone engaged.

Hannah (apprentice) says “Selven has provided wonderful training so far, the group seem to be really comfortable with him and he is constantly trying to engage every member. He is also always happy to help anyone with a problem or anyone that might not understand which is very helpful”.
