Destress from a busy NAW2021 with a mindful colouring in sheet

If you’re feeling particularly anxious or you need to focus your mind, that’s potentially a good cue to pick up some pens!

Research suggests that mindful colouring, as with meditation and art therapy, can provide lot’s benefits for all ages. Along with providing a much-needed break and the chance to relax and refocus, it can: Help lift your mood, decrease anxiety and stress.

With mindful colouring, you draw your attention into the present moment through colouring-in. You can use a colouring book or colouring sheet like the one below!

It really is as simple as sitting down and colouring-in, but there are some things you can do to heighten the positive impact:

  • Take a few deep breaths before starting to ground yourself and make sure you’re sitting comfortably.

  • Use any colour you feel like using.  You don’t even need to colour in the lines.  Go with what feels right to you at that moment.

  • If you find your mind wandering while you colour, just make a non-judgemental note of it and allow yourself to return to the moment and the act of colouring in.

  • Don’t judge your work.  Mindfulness = no judgement.  There is no right or wrong, it’s just a form of self-expression.

So why not click on and save the image below to your computer, print it out and grab your favourite pens, pencils or paints and take a moment, just for yourself this weekend.
